START: North Coast Harbor at Great Lakes Science Center
FINISH: Edgewater Park
The swim courses are in the break wall protected North Coast Harbor in the shadow of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The start is a Dual Time Trial Start (3 athletes start at a time every 5-10 seconds) FEET FIRST ENTRY ONLY swim starts from the boat dock behind the Great Lakes Science Center. The distances on the swim are 250 meters for the Super Sprint, 750 meters for the Sprint, and 1500 meters for the Olympic distance triathlon.
The bike courses are on the closed-to-traffic Memorial Shoreway that highlights the Cleveland skyline and downtown neighborhoods. Participants will be provided with multiple lanes to race on the entire course to avoid drafting and allowing for safe passing. The distances on the bike are 8k for the Super Sprint, 20k for the Sprint, and 40k for the Olympic distance triathlon.
Per USAT Rules Competitive Rules: 5.3 Knowledge of Course. The sole responsibility of knowing and following the prescribed cycling course rests with each participant. No adjustments in times or results shall be made for participants who fail to follow the proper course for any reason whatsoever.
No e-bikes are allowed for this race
The final run courses will be capped off with a run through Cleveland’s premier metropark, providing participants breathtaking views of downtown Cleveland and the lakefront. The distances for the run are 3k for the Super Sprint, 5k for the Sprint, and 10k for the Olympic distance triathlon & duathlon.
A shuttle will run from Edgewater Park (the location of Transition 2) to the Great Lakes Science Center (the location of Transition 1) on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Parking is located in Edgewater Park next to Transition 2. The shuttles will depart Edgewater Park at 4:15 am and continue through 5:45 am (LAST SHUTTLE AVAILABLE).
Due to USA Triathlon sanctioning for Tri CLE, youth participants ages 13-19 will be racing the standard Super Sprint, Sprint, and Olympic courses at the same time as the adult participants.
Youth racing options are Triathlon & Duathlon. (Aquabike is not available for youth)
There will not be a separate youth course. Each youth participant should be comfortable racing these distances and also understand road markings, signage, and other race-specific directions.
Tri CLE is a USA Triathlon Sanctioned event. An athlete's age for our race will be the participant's age as of Dec. 31, 2023. The participant's age on 12/31 will determine the racing age group. If the participant is due to “age-up” into the next group, it will happen at the beginning of the year, not after the participant's birthday

There will be a specific collegiate wave for both the Sprint Triathlon and Olympic Triathlon distances.
Olympic Distance Waves will start at 6:30 am
* Due to the length and demands of the Olympic distance, race leadership wants to ensure the youth participant is comfortable with the distance and understands the challenges it brings.

All Duathlon athletes will start at 6:40 am. Super Sprint, Sprint, and Olympic participants will each complete a 2-mile run before heading into Transition 1.
If you are wearing cycling shoes for the bike, make sure to have TWO pairs of running shoes, one to be worn for the first run leg and one that will need to be staged at Transition 2.
Gear from Transition 1 WILL NOT be delivered in time to use the running shoes from the first run.
There will be NO aid stations on any of the bike courses. On the run course there will be aid stations with water, Gatorade Endurance, and ice at approximately every mile of the course. Please prepare accordingly.
